We had to wait a long time for it, but all the more moving and impressive was our first live concert in 2020. For the first time in the history of Jazzfest Bonn, we hosted a headphone concert. On September 5, the a capella formation Of Cabbages And Kings from Cologne enchanted nearly 200 spectators with their multifaceted and delicate singing in front of the magnificently illuminated, historic backdrop of Lede Castle. The ambitious program ranged from their own settings of Shakespeare sonnets or poems by Hannah Arendt to jazz classics.
The audience, who had made themselves comfortable on picnic blankets and folding chairs they had brought with them on the slope of the castle moat, experienced the music particularly intensively through the headphones and were visibly enthusiastic. After about one and a half hours, the singers were rewarded with exuberant applause and were only released into their well-deserved night’s rest after three encores.
