Modern jazz, which builds a bridge from the creative past to the future, is the focus of the 11th festival year. The jubilarian Ludwig van Beethoven, who celebrates his 250th birthday in 2020 as Bonn’s most famous son, plays a very special role. As a visionary and sound artist, he is closer to jazz than it seems at first glance. In his time, improvisation was existential for every artist – today it is the core discipline in jazz. In the programme of the 11th Jazzfest Bonn, the encounter with the great musician’s revolutionary understanding of art is perceptible; in addition to the jazz concerts, it is peppered with Beethoven Islands and a free supporting programme. The concerts in which you will find a reference to Beethoven are listed here.
The concerts listed here are a project within the framework of BTHVN2020, funded by the Federal Republic of Germany, the State of North Rhine-Westphalia, the Rhein-Sieg-Kreis and the City of Bonn.
